Helping the Little Children Come to Christ

Jesus taught, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them". Christ asks that we help even the littlest on earth come to him and know him. Since many young ones do not yet know how to read or cannot understand everything that happens during a worship service, there exist several other ways to help the children come to Jesus. One such way is through playing games that they can understand and participate in. Games like Noah’s Quest, Ark, and VeggieTales card games are perfect for little children. Toys that are based off the Bible help kids to envision and even act out stories and parables. Such toys include Tales of Glory, like David and Goliath, Jesus Feeding the Five Thousand and Moses and the Ten Plagues. Puzzles, like the Day of Creation jigsaw, are an additional way to acquaint little children with the gospel. These tools will help even the littlest of God’s children come unto him with honest interest.



Mental Stimulation Through Challenging Games

Games do not solely entertain, but often challenge gamers and arouse their brains. Players must make rational decisions or calculated risks during game play to meet the object of the game. Clue is a game where the use of mental exertion is obvious. In Clue, players try to solve a murder mystery by slowly receiving clues throughout the game. Using deductive logic the first player to correctly guess the murderer, the weapon and the location wins the game. Rush Hour requires players to use problem solving skills and to see the big picture to find a solution. In Rush Hour, players have to move certain cars like sliding puzzle pieces to create a clear path for another car to pass through. Ticket to Ride, Alhambra, and other games have players exert various different mental skills. These games involve decision-making, like between using your turn to take money for a future investment, or going ahead and spending now while there is still a chance. Games like these prompt players to carefully use their money and meet goals in a timely fashion, just as in the business world. These are but a very few of the mental skills that can be developed and enhanced within games.

Whether on long vacations or short trips, the car is a great place to turn off the radio and bond with the family. Playing Bible-based games is an excellent way to bond and bring up precious values. Many religious games can be played while inside the car. The Bible version of Outburst is a hilarious way for the family and friends to bond while traveling. In Outburst: Bible Edition, top ten lists are given, and teams have a time limit to guess the most items on the list as possible. One card from this game might say, “Thanks to God expressed before and after meals”. The first player to guess the word “Grace!” wins that round. These games, among others, will keep everyone entertained in the car and lead to gospel discussion and interest.

It has been calculated that far more than half of the children that are born in the U. S. are born to broken families. Studies have also shown that children born into broken families tend to have two to three times as many serious problems as others. A proven way to help keep families close is to have a consistent Family Game Evening. Family Game Evening is when the family picks a day of the week to regularly get together as a family and have fun playing a game. Family Game Evening leads to family togetherness. It is a time where the family can learn about each member and notice the traits and talents of one another. It is great for building memories and just having a good time together. For many families, Family Game Evening is their favorite night of the week. Even wayward children have come home specifically for Family Game Evening since they know the family will all be together. These consistent evenings keep the family close throughout all the difficult times that each member might be facing.
