The symbols look so strange to none Chinese speakers, and the words sound nothing like the languages we may be accustomed to. 1. Take the time to evaluate a number of different Chinese language-learning systems. The ability to hear Chinese spoken by articulate native speakers is essential. The ability to repeat phrases back, and change them to suit different circumstances, is also key. And generally, the more approaches a program offers, the better. Not all students are able to learn Chinese online by merely listening; most are helped by auxiliary features such as computer software games.

2. Discover the best time for you to learn Chinese online, and stick to it! It doesn't matter if you study first thing in the morning or late at night, just as long as you choose a time when you can work uninterrupted and stay alert.

3. Make sure to repeat the Chinese speaker's phrases exactly as you hear them. Often students whisper their responses to avoid being heard by others in the house. You can't perfect your accent by whispering! If you want to succeed in learning Chinese online, just let your Chinese fly!

4. Don't confine yourself just to the conversational parts of your language-learning system. Most online packages include games or other activities to boost your skill level and quizzes to challenge you and valuate what you've learned. Take advantage of these add-ons, not just because you've paid for them, but because they really will help you learn Chinese online rapidly and easily.

5. Learning Chinese online doesn't lock you in front of a computer. Go out of your way to meet native Chinese speakers in all walks of life, and practice your communication skills by speaking with them in their own language. No matter how insecure you may feel, they'll be delighted to hear you speaking their language, and your new friendship will build your Chinese skills quickly.
