Mental Stimulation Through Challenging Games

Although many games appear to be simply for entertainment purposes, more often than not, gamers find themselves challenging themselves and stimulating their brains. Games require players to have to really think about decisions they will make or risks they should take, all on meeting a specific objective. Much of this mental activity comes into play in the game of Clue, for example. In Clue, players try to solve a murder mystery by slowly receiving clues throughout the game. Using deductive logic the first player to correctly guess the murderer, the weapon and the location wins the game. Other games, like that of Rush Hour, strain players’ skills in problem solving and in looking at the big idea. In Rush Hour, players have to move certain cars like sliding puzzle pieces to create a clear path for another car to pass through. Ticket to Ride, Alhambra, and other games have players exert various different mental skills. Decision-making is heavily put into practice in these games. Players must decide to either save their money or use it now instead of risking losing it by the next turn. They motivate players to be wise with money and focus on meeting objectives in a timely manner, much like in the business world. These are but a very few of the mental skills that can be developed and enhanced within games.

Are Online Games Safe?

Online games are considered by many to be unsafe. Although each one decides for his or herself what is safe and what is not, there are certain aspects of online gaming that must be considered when deciding whether or not to enter or continue in the realm of online gaming. The networks that connect players to online games have no restrictions on who can join the game. That means gamers will play with individuals that they know nothing about. Thus players will collaborate with people they otherwise would never play with if they knew more about who they were and their personality. A lot of these online games are of a violent nature and demand the murder of other virtual characters that are representing real players. Therefore, gamers are socializing with people who will not hesitate to kill or abuse another in a virtual setting. The language is often uncensored, and crude speech is frequently found within these networks. These games tend to be demanding and addictive, and cause many gamers to live an unhealthy lifestyle of less sleep than necessary as well as a lack of quality food and exercise. Whether or not online games really are dangerous, they are clearly risky and often degrading forms of entertainment.

Games generally are fun, but sometimes they can become offensive or upsetting. To avoid such unpleasantness, the following are some tips on how to have the most fun while playing games with friends and family. Remember that you get as much out of a game as you put into it. If you are excited and happy and participative, the game will become exciting, positive and lively. Be careful to not get so caught up in the game that you forget that you are playing with friends and family. Do not say things that you will feel bad for having said soon after. Make sure not to tease too much during the game. Help make the game more enjoyable for other players. Find ways to give them compliments, high-fives, winks, and so forth, whether they are on your team or not. During the game, if you are losing, make sure not to lose your cool. It is doubtful anyone will remember your performance. However, other players will remember if you behaved immaturely. Try to be positive and funny even in the losing situation. For longer amusement, switch the games every once in a while to not become too burned out with a certain one.

Ways to make Christian Gaming More Reverent

Christian games, like those based on the Bible, are great ways to bring up gospel conversation. However, sometimes these games are played just like other secular games and their purpose is forgotten. There are several ways to get more out of these religious games so that gospel learning is assured. For example, after each round, a Bible verse can be found that has to do with the idea that was presented. Even this can become a game by seeing who will be the first to find such a scripture. Religious song can be involved by singing praises or hymns that correlate with the game. Family members can each share a religious experience or tell a Bible story that has to do with ideas from the game. It is a good idea to start and end the game with a prayer as well to give thanks to God for each member of the family or the friends that are present.
